                          Hypothetical Civilization 
Civilization on Earth, as we know it, is thousands of years old. Earth has faced tremendous changes over that time. The existence of the human species accounts for only 0.005% of the universe's 13.7-billion-year age. We have gone from hunting and gathering in the woods of Africa to colonizing the entire planet, a journey that is just a blink of an eye compared to the age of the universe. Humans have done outstanding work in technology over the last 200 years, but can we count ourselves as the only advanced species in this universe? What if we meet an alien species whose technology is more advanced than ours? So where are they? Do they exist, and if so, how can we find them?
In 1964, Russian astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev introduced a hypothetical scale used to measure the advancement of extraterrestrial civilizations based on the amount of energy they consume. This is known as the Kardashev Scale. The scale has three main types, along with several extended versions, based on the amount of energy a civilization consumes. The scale is logarithmic.

Type I: Planetary Civilization
This type is similar to our current civilization on Earth. In this stage, energy is consumed from the host star—in our case, the Sun—and stored for various purposes. The amount of energy available from our Sun is 7 × 10^17 watts, an enormous amount. However, humans do not yet fit exactly into the Type I category; we are instead considered a Type 0 civilization.
According to the Kardashev Scale formula, K = (log₁₀P − 6) / 10, where K is the civilization's Kardashev rating and P represents the amount of energy the civilization consumes. In 2015, it was estimated that humans consumed 17.35 terawatts of energy. Plugging this value into the formula gives a rating of Type 0.72. According to physicist Michio Kaku, humans may reach Type I status within the next 200 years. In a Type I civilization, we would have total control over our own planet, including the ability to make geological changes and control natural disasters. However, this civilization is minor compared to the next stage.

Type II: Stellar Civilization
In this stage, a civilization can harness the energy not just of its host star, but of its entire solar system. According to Michio Kaku, humanity could reach this level within the next thousand years. One hypothetical device used to capture the total energy output of a star is the Dyson Sphere, a concept named after American theoretical physicist and mathematician Freeman Dyson. It consists of a system of orbiting solar power satellites. In this stage, a civilization would not only control the energy of its host star through such a device but also have control over every planet in its solar system. Still, this civilization is modest compared to Type III.

Type III: Galactic Civilization
This is the most advanced civilization type. According to Michio Kaku, humanity could reach this stage in about a million years. A Type III civilization harnesses the total energy of an entire galaxy, an enormous amount drawn not from a single star but from billions of stars, as well as from quasars and black holes. Such a civilization could also colonize other planets. If a civilization consumed this much energy, the galaxy itself might become nearly invisible to outside observers—appearing instead as a hole or void at its center.
There is an empty region in our observable universe, about 3 billion light-years from Earth, called the Supervoid. Spanning roughly 1.8 billion light-years across, it is the largest known structure ever discovered, containing an area missing around 10,000 galaxies. Some speculate that an advanced alien civilization could exist near the Supervoid. There is still much more to discover, as our universe holds abundant mysteries.
